The Student Edition of Pilotlogbook is already free for Australian student pilots. But you can also earn a free Private or Commercial Edition just by taking part here on the forums.
Every post, reply and like earns you points, and points swap for Pilotlogbook rewards. Here’s how it works.
How many points you need
| Reward | Student price |
|---|---|
| 10% off | 100 points |
| 20% off | 250 points |
| 35% off | 450 points |
| 50% off | 700 points |
| Free Private Edition | 2,000 points |
| Free Commercial Edition | 2,500 points |
Your points never expire, so you can save up at your own pace. Current prices are always on your Rewards page.
How to earn points as a student
1. Set up your profile (+25). Add your licence and ratings to your profile. It’s a one-off bonus, and it helps other pilots know where you’re at.
2. Make your first post (+50). Say hello in Pilot Talk: where you’re training, what you’re flying and what you’re working towards.
3. Visit every day (+5 a day, plus 50 for every 7 days in a row). Just opening the forum counts. Keep a 7-day streak going and you get a 50 point bonus each week.
4. Start conversations (+15 each, up to 3 a day). Ask the questions you’re stuck on, share what you learned on your last lesson, or talk through your checkride prep. Pilot Talk is yours to post in.
5. Reply to others (+10 each, up to 10 a day). Answer a question you know, share your experience, or reply to an Announcement.
6. Write posts people like (+5 per like, up to 20 a day). Each member’s like counts once per post. Helpful, well-written posts get liked.
How long it takes
| A steady week | Points |
|---|---|
| Visit every day | 35 |
| 7-day streak bonus | 50 |
| 1 reply a day | 70 |
| 2 new topics | 30 |
| 10 likes on your posts | 50 |
| Total | 235 |
Add your first post and profile bonus (75 points) in week one, and a steady week like this gets you a free Private Edition in about 8 weeks, or a free Commercial Edition in about 10. Post a bit more (3 replies a day, 5 topics a week and 20 likes) and that’s about 470 points a week, or a free Private Edition in about 4 weeks.
Redeeming your free edition
- When you have 2,000 points, open your Rewards page (or select your points at the top of the page) and select Redeem on Free Private Edition.
- You’ll get a single-use code, valid for 90 days. It’s also saved under Your codes on the Rewards page.
- Select Use it now to open the Pilotlogbook shop with the code already applied, or enter it at checkout.
- Check out with the same email as your forum account. That way your forum access upgrades automatically, and you get everything Private and Commercial owners do: asking in Help, posting and voting on Requests, Members Only, and a guest pass to invite a friend.
Rather not wait? You can redeem a discount instead, for example 700 points for 50% off. Redeeming uses those points, so if you’re aiming for the free edition, save them up.
Fair play
Points are for genuine contributions. Daily limits apply, and if a post is removed, its points (and the points from likes on it) come off too. Likes only count from other members, once per person per post.
