Hi all, and welcome to Pilotlogbook Forums!

After months in development, today the team and I are sending forum access to everyone who owns Pilotlogbook, so I wanted to get in first and break the ice. I know plenty of you will be curious but a bit sceptical, and maybe even nervous about posting (since we theoretically have a large range of experience levels). Hopefully this makes it a little easier.

A bit about me: I’m Alex, Founder of Pilotlogbook and an instructor in South East Queensland, building hours towards the airlines. I got into aviation in 2021 as a student completing a degree in Aviation and started flying in 2023. That’s when I ran into the logbook problem. The options were all subscription-based, and I hated the idea of paying every month just to log my own hours. So Pilotlogbook was born. I still use it just about every day, and it’s been great hearing how many of you enjoy it too.

The Pilotlogbook team is small and mostly GA pilots. We built this forum for the same reason we built the logbook: to solve a problem. Pilots at every stage can swap knowledge, ask questions and help each other out all in one place. It’ll only be as good as we make it, so please jump in. I think this can be a great resource so fingers crossed it doesn’t fizzle out.

To get things started, reply and let me know:

- Where you’re based
- Where you’re at (student, PPL, CPL, instructing / GA, airline or something else)
- What you fly
- What you’re working towards

I’ve got good connections in the GA scene and some connections in the Airlines. I will personally make sure every topic is replied to on this forum and I’ll provide my best insights where I can. Other team members will join the forums in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your time,
Alex

Hi PilotLogbook Forum,

My name is Leo, I’m a 19-year-old private pilot based at Archerfield in Brisbane.

I’m currently completing my CPL theory subjects and exams at Airways Aviation.

I fly C172s and am working towards obtaining my Commercial Pilot Licence by early next year, followed by my Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR).

Leo

Hey Leo, welcome aboard, and thanks for being the first one in! Someone has to post first on a brand new forum, so I really appreciate you getting the ball rolling.

You’re in good company with Archerfield and C172s, since plenty of us learned in exactly that setup. Great to hear you’re getting stuck into CPL theory too. How are you finding it so far? Which subjects have you knocked over, and which ones are left? If you hit a wall with any of them, start a thread here and we’ll help you work through it. Chances are someone else is stuck on the same thing.

CPL by early next year and then straight into the MEIR is a solid plan. Have you thought about what comes after that? Instructing, charter, or aiming straight for a regional or airline pathway? I’m happy to share what I’ve seen work for people going each way.

Best of luck with the exams, and keep us posted on how you go!

Cheers,
Alex
